6/15 ~ PA Pines

1995 USAIDS 5,000
Post #16:
Working our way Northeast through PA, June 16th was another picturesque bicycling day. We were on our way to Erie, planning to arrive there about dinner time on Thursday. This was also a camping night, courtesy of Foote Rest RV Park and Campground. (Each picture has more details.)

Pennsylvania is loaded with vast miles of rolling hills (aka baby mountains), serenely blanketed with rich-green pine trees. Some spots were so thick, it was like bicycling at dusk, but when I found a hilltop clearing, the view made the climb so worth it. This was a picture I took from a rest stop, overlooking a town or village in the valley. (Picture from June 15, 1995)

This picture is courtesy of High Pines RV Park, formerly known as Foote Rest RV Park and Campground, in Kane, PA. Their website would indicate that under new ownership, it is far more developed than it was twenty years ago. That said, from the large building (office, rec room and store), follow the trail, through the park, to where it heads into the forest (upper left). This may be where the "primitive campsites" (also meaning no amenities) may well have been located. I remember being so far off the beaten path, that if one wanted to lounge in the buff, nobody would ever know. Add to that, the near forest-fire-sized campfire, courtesy of Carl Lebman; this turned out to be a most memorable night's stay. (Picture from High Pines RV Park Facebook page~story from 1995)
